Toluca Lake's Gifted Program on the Rise

Congratulations to our many students in the GATE program. 14.9% of our Toluca Lake Elementary students are identified gifted!!! (The district's goal is 6%.) This percentage includes all students from pre-kindergarten [age 4] through fifth grade, however, students aren't typically assessed until 6 years 9 months old or older.)

Gifted and Talented Education
GATE Program

Toluca Lake's Gifted and Talented program begins in kindergarten with early screening for giftedness. A child may be officially identified as early as 6 years 9 months of age in the Intellectual category.

Other categories of giftedness include:
- High Achievement - two consecutive years scoring "Exceeds Standard" on the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics
- Specific Academic Achievement - three consecutive years scoring "Exceeds Standard" on the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy (ELA) or mathematics
- 2nd Grade OLSAT examination - given to all 2nd grade students in the spring -
